Supporting Health Professionals in Armenia

The 4th International Medical Conference of Armenia was held this July in Yerevan, organised by local professional organisations. It attracted health workers from around the world. Two AMA-GB members presented papers at the conference. We are collaborating with our Argentinian colleagues who will host the next international conference in Buenos Aires. If you fancy visiting the land of tango, good beef and wine, watch out for our newsletters.

Young Professionals

AMA-GB is what its members do. We are a voluntary organisation. We strive to support Armenian health professionals in the UK, the Republics of Armenia and Artsakh and to promote health matters within the Armenian community in the UK. So we are pleased that many young professionals are joining us in these endeavours. In their honour, we held our first Networking Evening for Young Professionals at the Navasartian Centre, Ealing, in November.

Blood for Memory

Blood For Memory was initiated in Geneva by the Commission of Armenian Associations and Foundations of Switzerland for the commemoration of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. The aim was to mobilize communities worldwide to give the gift of life through blood donation to honour and remember the victims of Genocide and crimes against humanity.

AMA-GB publicised the programme in the UK Community. See how this international movement is doing at

Fundraising for Syria

Our chair, Seta Boghossian-Tighe, kindly opened up her garden for a fund raising party. Over £2000 was sent to aid Armenian victims of the Syrian Tragedy.

Educating  Family Physicians in the Republic

In the UK, we take for granted ready access to GPs who have had specialist training.  Family Medicine, as general practice is known in Armenia, is still an infant speciality. We are proud that AMA-GB members continue to assist in the delivery of an update course for Armenian family physicians. The International Symposium of Family Medicine, as it is called, was held for the third year running in Yerevan this October. The course is now established as an annual event. It is the result of collaboration between the Family Medicine Academic Society (FMAS), the Yerevan State Medical University after M Heratsi, the AMA-GB and the East Anglian Faculty of the Royal College of GPs. New members Drs Mary Chorbadjian and Alicia Dermijian joined the panel of speakers this year with veterans Seta Boghossian-Tigh and Kevork Hopayian. The panel also included our long time colleagues from Sweden and the USA. Alicia has also joined the committee of AMA.
